Just seen this from
a Guardian report on Friday about recreating football matches played during the Christmas truce of World War I as part of next year's centenary celebrations. Andrew Murrison, Minister for International Security Strategy, in the Ministry of Defence said (my emphasis):
...that staging a football match in Belgium
on the battlefields where soldiers had briefly put down their weapons
was "a no-brainer in terms of an event that is going to reach part of
the community that perhaps might not get terribly entrenched into this".
One wonders if he could have worded that better...
Reminds me of the chap who phoned up Radio 4 in advance of the announcement about the bones found in that car park at Leicester. He said he had a HUNCH that it would prove to be Richard III.
