A point noted by the EC itself:

An Order 2 was subsequently made in both the Scottish and UK Parliaments under Section 30 of the Scotland Act 1998, enabling the Scottish Parliament to legislate for the referendum. SIRA , the Act subsequently passed by the Scottish Parliament ,
provided for the roles undertaken by the various bodies in Scotland, with regard to the referendum ,
to be slightly different to a referendum run under the
Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000 (PPERA)

However certainly when it comes to nationwide poll, which does come under the EC your comment makes a very good point. Watch this space.
TheBoilingFroghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00791961503315586243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6693950082152211516.post-47793033368096954552015-03-21T15:49:45.446+00:002015-03-21T15:49:45.446+00:00That's an excellent point thank you...That's an excellent point thank you...TheBoilingFroghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00791961503315586243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6693950082152211516.post-70163552631040550972015-03-21T11:30:34.480+00:002015-03-21T11:30:34.480+00:00Reference to the referendum in Scotland is importa...Reference to the referendum in Scotland is important since the outcome the Scots were voting for at the end of the campaign was not the outcome on offer at the beginning of the campaign.

Early postal votes might reasonably be seen as having been invalidated by the eleventh-hour panic measure cobbled together by Brown and Cameron in reaction to that one single rogue poll. I'm surprised the Electoral Commission didn't react with a 'stern warning' that the Referendum as previously agreed was now being fought on differing terms-of-reference.

As you say, UKIP aren't in the game. If they concentrated on refining and insisting on very strident and fixed terms-of-reference for the Referendum, they could play merry hell with Cameron's hidden intentions.

Douglas Carter.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6693950082152211516.post-38121091288719952962015-03-20T17:34:33.383+00:002015-03-20T17:34:33.383+00:00The sad conclusion is it could have been so differ...The sad conclusion is it could have been so different under UKIP.

But in answer to your question there is a far better opportunity that the eurosceptic cause will be better served should there be a referendum.

There are plans afoot...TheBoilingFroghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00791961503315586243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6693950082152211516.post-40645331223596623472015-03-20T17:26:52.188+00:002015-03-20T17:26:52.188+00:00'the eurosceptic movement is being very poorly...'the eurosceptic movement is being very poorly served by UKIP' may well be true - but it's not being served at all by anyone else, is it?Dioclesehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11520854651324331134noreply@blogger.com
