Shooting Oneself In The Foot

It was easily foreseeable, with the 'positive' coverage over the Rotherham scandal and the recent good news over Ukip's standing in the polls that come with it would be ever more scrutiny. Once you start knocking on the door of the establishment with a view to changing it, then 'the Empire is going to strike back'.

Ukip candidates up and down the land are going to come under far more scrutiny, as are Ukip policies. So it doesn't help when for one reason or another Ukip don't do themselves any favours:
A UKIP candidate has been blasted after calling for the compulsory abortion of any foetus with Down's syndrome or spina bifida.
Which indeed he has:
"...compulsory abortion when the foetus is detected as having Downs, Spina Bifida or similar syndrome which, if it is born, could render the child a burden on the state as well as on the family. "
The 'personal manifesto' released as a Ukip council candidate is an amateurish ranting tour de force that contains a goldmine of quotes for the media eager to shoot the Ukip fox, whether one agrees with his points or not. Thus it's simply not good enough to then state this:
CLARIFICATION TO AVOID CONFUSION AND MISREPRESENTATION: I do not, and UKIP does not, endorse any of these ideas: they are suggestions of matters for the review body to properly consider in light of the stated desire of all political parties to reduce the national debt.
Ukip will be damaged by association, it's inevitable and obvious, and it undoes a lot of work by hard working Ukip members. Ironically he states:
We are far too sqeamish [sic] about attacking our opponents. We must attack them mercilessly, remorselessly and harshly.
Well he's about to find out what it's like to be on the receiving end. And Ukip wonder why they have no MP's?

  1. One of the problems with politics is that if you speak you mind you will live to regret it. The voters are driven towards lying, slippery shisters by the media.
That is why we are infested with PPE graduates who willl never pass up on the chance to dodge a straight question.
A serious catch 22 situation which leaves us in the position that we now find ourselves.

  2. @Mike Bravo I don't dispute that an injection of honesty would be refreshing in politics, but even considering aborting children because of disability as a policy crosses the line...and will invoke the obvious comparison with a certain 1930's government.

This is more to do with amateurism not honesty.

  3. Not sure what "spina bifida" is but Downs, yes, I agree. Why, because that child never had a choice, you did and you condemned it to a life of difficulty, so much so that it will always be an outcast.

It's hard enough being "normal" let alone being born at such a disadvantage, but, if you wish to go ahead and condemn you own child in that fashion then you may do so, I suppose, but you will have to pay for it because, ultimately, it's a selfish decision to inflict on others.

As long as it doesn't cost me anything then you may do as you wish, within reason and me thinks that this is unreasonable anyway, but it's your child.

Just don't expect them to thank you for it.

  4. @Anon Why, because that child never had a choice...

...as to the marvelous choice they have by being aborted without a say in the matter, despite that they could go on to fulfill a happy and productive life?

    Why stop at Downs...

...you condemned it to a life of difficulty

In that case should we terminate everyone who might be disabled? After all they are all condemned to a life of difficulty...god forbid they might very very slightly impact on your wallet.

Must pass that by Mrs (wheelchair bound) TBF that should she become a burden on the state I'll smother her with a pillow just to save a couple of coppers in your wallet.

  5. Anyone who believes in compulsory abortion for Spina Bifida or Downs kids hasn't the first clue what they are talking about.

Agree this is amateurism, about time UKIP got a better idea about the people standing under their banner before they get the nod. At least this idiot has been suspended.

  7. This is an appalling comment from a UKIP candidate. As for Anon 20:56 "... it's a selfish decision to inflict on others." So killing a an unborn child is less selfish?
