Mugabe Is Dying

Apparently Mr Mugabe is fighting a losing battle against cancer, I wouldn't normally comment in these circumstances apart from offering normal human sympathies, but in this case I make an exception. It just goes to show no matter how powerful you become by virtue of evil means, mere mortality gets you in the end.

An interesting thought is, what will John Sentamu, Archbishop of York do should Mugabe die soon? He infamously cut up his dog collar on the Andrew Marr show in protest at Mugabe remaining in power, leaving the Scottish presenter rather speechless at the time:

So the important question is how long will Sentamu leave it after Mugabe's death until he puts his collar back on. The balance, as a Christian, between respect and protest will be very fine indeed.

"EU Can Go To Hell"

So says Mugabe:

Western officials walked out of the funeral of Robert Mugabe's sister yesterday after Zimbabwe's president said the European Union could "go to hell" over its economic sanctions.

Mr Mugabe, 86, told mourners for his sister Sabina in Harare: "Sanctions must go. We are still treated as if Zimbabwe is owned by Europe cum America. They say 'remove so and so,' of course they mean Mugabe must go before we can assist you. To hell with them."

Personally, I'd have thought that there are many aspects of the EU that Mugabe would admire.

Guess who's just arrived at Copenhagen?

President Mugabe arrived on Tuesday in Copenhagen to take part in the final days of the UN climate change talks.

Mugabe is banned from EU states, including Denmark, but under UN rules, Mugabe holds diplomatic immunity and is able to take part in the UN-hosted talks.

Mugabe of course has taken Zimbabwe from one of Africa's strongest economies into the world's worst through authoritarian rule, economic mismanagement and corruption - the perfect symbol of the UN hosted climate change summit in fact.
