MORE than 100,000 people have signed up to the Daily Express’s crusade for Britain to quit the European Union, it can be revealed today.I'm not sure by the last line whether it means all newspapers or just in the Express's history, but either way it's good news and a sure sign that the Express has successfully tapped into people's concerns which hitherto have long been ignored.
The newspaper has received a deluge of our special crusade coupons calling on David Cameron’s Government to organise an orderly withdrawal from the EU.
Support has hit six figures in just over a week since the historic crusade was launched. It is on course to become the fastest growing campaign in newspaper history.

Express Overwhelmed By Support
The Daily Express reports today that the response to its 'get out of the EU' crusade has been very positive:

Whenever I think of the Express' campaign one phrase repeatedly springs to mind:
ReplyDelete'There go my people. I must find out where they're going so I can lead them.'
The quote is a variation, but it sums up what the Express is doing. Many of us have long pressed for a democratic binding referendum to decide whether we remain in the EU or withdraw.
It's nice to have an entity with a large platform on side, but it does make me laugh seeing the Express trying to direct events when it has only just arrived at the party.
Quoting AM: "It's nice to have an entity with a large platform on side, but it does make me laugh seeing the Express trying to direct events when it has only just arrived at the party."; the words 'on', 'jump' and 'bandwagon' spring to mind. Oh and: 'circulation' and 'increasing'!
ReplyDeleteCynical possibly, true, definitely!
AM - "..Many of us have long pressed for a democratic binding referendum to decide whether we remain in the EU or withdraw..."
ReplyDeleteAnd to keep on voting until we get the right answer; ie. withdrawal.
After all, what's good for the goose.
@AM and WfW Undoubtedly there's an element of bandwagon-jumping going on.
ReplyDeleteIn defence of the Express at least they've made the party, the other newspapers are still programming their sat navs, or have got waylaid by an unscheduled stop in the pub on the way, or have misread the invitation that the party is being held next decade sometime ;-)
@jic, agreed.
TBF, off topic I know, but I was watching the Keiser Report on Russia Today earlier today, and I was very impressed at the level of information I learned about the Greek bailout and the machinations of the banks in engineering the collapse and the so-called recovery.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone else watched this prog and if so, what is the general feeling on it. I just don't know of any business prog in the UK that comes close to revealing and explaining what is happening to us.
