The Elephant Reveals Itself

Newspapers maybe reluctant to mention the elephant, not so RWE. Above is a scanned-in copy of the first paragraph of a letter (accompanied with a booklet), which has gone to all the residents of Didcot and surrounding area, concerning the closure of the nearby power station next month.

As is clear (click to enlarge) the reasons for the closure are laid out right from the start:
This is because we were required to limit the lifespan of the power station under the Large Combustion Plant Directive - an EU law aimed at reducing emissions across Europe.
The glossy brochure lays out some more detail on the Directive, which apart from Booker, is more than I've ever seen in the legacy media.

When people become aware that the EU is responsible for blowing up cooling towers on their doorstep, it becomes an elephant that is losing the struggle to remain hidden.

And there is the whole issue in a nutshell.

  2. It becomes less hidden in all sorts of ways.

Cameron's plan for minimum alcohol pricing scuppered because of it.

The horsemeat scandal. We can't just ban imports or institute extraordinary inspections.

Gay marriage. Most people must think it was odd that he pushed for it so hard out of the blue. It turns out it was a Council of Europe measure. OK, the CoE and the EU are not the same, but there are close links.

    1. Quite and it's the Achilles heel of the EU - the more it integrates the more it reveals itself. The arrogance of power without legitimacy is its weak spot

That's a good way of putting it. These big top down systems with no corrective by way of democratic feedback don't work as we saw in the Soviet Union.

There can't be democratic feedback, because there's no EU demos, and in any case the EU has shown that it reacts to democracy like a vampire reacts to a crucifix.

  4. And, on a lighter note, how do you pick up an elephant with one hand?

You can't - you'll never find an elephant with one hand.

Meanwhile, Owen Patterson does, also, at least keep dropping the biggest hints he dare about how he is hog-tied by EU legislation!
