For the first time ever since this blog has gone live, I've managed to attract a troll prompted by my previous post about complaining to the PCC over Mats Persson. As such, despite being warned, the persistence of this blog's troll has meant that I have had to invoke comment moderation.
My policy on comments though remains the same; any criticism, however harsh of the post or me (as
long as it's not of a racist or gratuitous nature) is welcome, but I won't accept my hospitality being abused with extensive use of capitals and repeated content.
Thus any genuine comments may incur a slight delay before being published. I thank my readers for their patience.
Not used blogger before, but is there a way to switch moderation to anonymous posts only (as i am guessing you can block a registered account from the blog. I know this leaves an option for a troll to crreate a new account each time after commenting and being blocked but they would soon get bored of creating new accounts only to post 1 or 2 comments before you block them, and they have to do it again.
ReplyDeleteWith Blogger, there's an option to ban anonymous posts - some kind of registration is required instead.
DeleteI refrained from that largely because I wanted to allow comments to be as hassle free as possible and until now that has never really been a problem.
Anyway it looks like the temporary moderation policy has worked so I'll likely turn it off shortly
I wonder if that was Mats himself.
ReplyDeleteTBF - you must be one of the most inoffensive individuals on this Internet thingy.
ReplyDeleteDesperation is creeping in and the opposition are getting nastier
Comment moderation? No problem.
Nil carborundum.
Thank you...

I hope so it gives comfort that we're getting somewhere.
You have my sympathy. I myself was trolled a little while back and considered moving the blog to Wordpress where the moderation system is better than Blogger. In the end the bugger went away so I ditched the idea.
ReplyDeleteIt's easy enough to move it, but if you want the free bit of Wordpress then the layout is a lot less sophisticated. Mine is quite complex whereas your's is quite simple (not being rude here!) so it's a consideration.
My problem is spammers and I use Captcha for that. I dislike it, but it works!
Ilegitimi non carborundum...
Thank you, I tried to keep making comments as easy as possible, and it's the first time since I've begun I've had a problem.
DeleteDeleting his comments takes little of my time, but writing them takes a great deal more of his... I'm happy for it to stay that way.
Sooner or later we attract them. Delete and ban is the only solution.
DeleteInteresting to note the comment comes from Belgium which is logged as "trouble"

LOL - Anonymous is banned for heinous crime of "extensive use of capitals" in repeatedly asking questions that you have yet to answer.
ReplyDeleteI must have missed the clause on CAPITAL PUNISHMENT in the Harrogate Agenda. Haha.
I haven't banned anyone (if anything Anonymous has banned himself) Anonymous is welcome to make comments as long as he doesn't abuse my comments facility.
DeleteHe was using block capital letters only and posting the same comment over and over again (now removed). It's very difficult to answer comments that come in at a rate of 1 a minute. I considered repeated comments every minute as spam and it got treated as such - I did politely ask him to refrain and he didn't.
I'm always more than happy to answer genuine questions. (The only exception at the moment is on anything related to Norway as I have a PCC complaint ongoing which has a confidentially attached).
Yo ... Warm Frog. Thoroughly enjoy your blog. Don't get to hung up on the trolls. You and R. North are doing a great service re FLEXIT.
ReplyDeleteThank you...your comment is much appreciated.
