The Decline of Veto Boy

I know polls are only a snap shot and it's the trend that matters, but I can't resist:

The Sun goes on to say:
And Mr Cameron's apparent U-turn last week over that could explain his party's dip in the polls. He returned from a Brussels summit having failed to stop the other 26 EU members signing a new treaty. That led to claims from his own backbenchers that he had not protected Britain's interests.
Oh what a web we weave...

  1. I never doubted for a moment that Dave would cave in at the first opportunity. He's just a snake oil flim-flam artist. It's hard to believe that people can still be taken in by him. A quick look at the Tory track record on the EU tells you all you need to know.

  2. The drop can't possibly be because Cameron watered down 'The Veto That Never Was' because the electorate doesn't care about the EU - or so we are told.

There was a similar drop before the General Election when he dropped his cast-iron promise over the Lisbon Treaty.

No - the electorate definitely doesn't give a toss abut the EU. We are only interested in schools n 'ospitals; gay marriage; Fabio Capello and whether there are enough women on the boardrooms of FTSE 100 companies.

  3. I've come to the conclusion that Cameron really doesn't understand the EU at all, and doesn't want to think about it.

He goes along with it because anything else would be hard. The main thing for him is to come out with soundbites and gestures to keep the home crowd happy.

The Tories have always gone along with the EU in practice but made anti-EU noises and it's worked well for them. However, I think the days of being able to get away with that are running out.
