Feel The Narrative

"History is a set of lies agreed upon" - Napoleon

Despite the fact that Cameron had no power of a veto, there was no treaty to veto and he didn't use the word veto when reporting back to the house (that would have been lying) the 'veto' narrative continues - as pictured above.

It's revealing that Cameron's greatest achievement of 2011 is to take credit for an event that never actually happened but still it's one that his party is proud of. A damning indictment indeed.

With barely a dissenting voice the MSM to a man have reported an event that is complete fiction - one that is lapped up by the public at large. The maxim: "don't believe what you read in the papers" must be one of the most ignored in history - most of us it seems take comfort in being lied to - the truth being treated as a mere inconvenience. This is how history is written.

The overwhelming lesson therefore is, never mind the facts, feel the narrative.

  2. Always thought Tim Martin was cleverer than that.
Perhaps he is, he's cashing in on it!

  3. A pub chain naming an ale with a message asking us not to drink it! I think they need a new marketing strategy. Still, somebody must have bought the shares today. Perhaps Cameron was responsible for the 2% rise.

  4. Talking about a narrative I think I detected one on the Today programme this morning. Take a look at http://graspthemettle.blogspot.com/

Well there isn't much credit to be had in the events that did happen.

  6. I'm prepared to be corrected on this but I'm reasonably sure Tim Martin specifically commented on the 'non-veto' veto in his recent leader in the J.D.Wetherspoon magazine.

Even if I'm wrong the tone of his article was straightforwardly 'anti'...no doubt about it.

Perhaps this brew has been created to take the piss.

  7. Just re-read the article....I was wrong.

Still, the piece is pretty clear on his opinions and this issue (January 2012) also carries a double page 'sceptical' article on Climate Change' an sea-level rise from Nils-Axel Morner.

Raises the bar on in-pub reading material for the great unwashed, 'bootless and un-horsed' I reckon.

  8. @Dave Evans I've no doubt he is, whatever his personal thoughts.

    @Anon I like it :-)

@Paulsc Thanks for the link, just realised you're not on my blogroll - now rectified.

@absentee No, you're right, indeed not. Cameron's bask of glory only comes with fiction. About sums it up.

@Duncan B I probably wasn't explicitly clear, but the thrust of my post was to have a go at the MSM which Tim Martin has logically taken advantage of - I have no beef with him personally just an observation that the MSM narrative overrides all.
