Quote Of The Day

Ed Milliband wrote into Labour’s 1997 election manifesto the promise to hold a referendum on voting reform:
We are committed to a referendum on the voting system for the House of Commons. An independent commission on voting systems will be appointed early to recommend a proportional alternative to the first-past-the-post system.
Today, when asked John Humphrys on BBC's today programme why the pledge was broken, Wallace replied (from 4:55mins in):
“Because we got a majority of 170”
A marvelous lesson in casual political cynicism.
