Priorities

Five years ago I was burgled, guess how many policemen turned up? None. Two years ago a near neighbour on our street was burgled, guess how many policemen turned up? None. Last November my neighbour across the street was burgled, guess how many policemen turned up? None.

Today after picking my wife up from work I was unable to access the cul-de-sac where I live properly because there were 4 police cars parked in our road - with two in a nearby street - a total of 6 plus copious other cars stopped with the drivers talking to policemen

Not only that, I counted 8 policemen - 2 with a camera and 6 busy booking motorists - there was a queue! The reason? At the end of our road for the first time ever, the Police decided to install a mobile speed trap...

...on the Thursday before an Easter bank holiday, on a road which has a lot of passing traffic thus many motorists may be unfamiliar with the road, and one where the speed limit has recently been reduced from 40mph to 30mph without the usual warning signs.

This is not about road safety but targets.

  1. I'm starting to wonder how the 'ordinary' policemen and women live with themselves, knowing that what they are doing in situations as you describe, are a form of oppression and not what they were employed for. As for getting one of them to come to your assistance when you have been robbed, with one exception, I have had the same experience as you and your neighbours.

  2. It has nothing to do with targets.

It is a revenue generation scam.

    Catching burglars costs money.

    Catching drivers makes money.

No room in gaols for burglars but plenty of room in the coffers for money.

    CR.

  3. @JiC Sorry to hear, though not surprised, that you've suffered a similar experience. I've been burgled (not at the same house) 3 times in my life and each time the response has been the same - here's your Unique Reference Number (URN) for insurance purposes now sod off. The Police make no secret that burglary is an irrelevant crime. As you say I'm not sure how they live with themselves.

@CR Good points, whatever the reasons it certainly ain't road safety - the timing stinks.
